Melchizedek Priesthood / The "Chair" / Everlasting (Old & New) Covenant / The Scapegoat SIMPLIFIED

I. Melchizedek Priesthood
II. The "Chair"
III. Everlasting (Old & New) Covenant
IV. The Scapegoat

I. Melchizedek Priesthood
For this
Melchisedec, king of Salem,
priest of the most high God,
who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings,
and blessed him;
To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all;
first being by interpretation King of righteousness,
and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;
Without father, without mother,
without descent,
having neither beginning of days,
nor end of life;
but made like unto the Son of God;
abideth a priest continually.

Hebrews 7:1-3
"THE priesthood of the worldly Sanctuary of the first covenant belonged to the sons of Levi; but that of the heavenly, of the better covenant, to the Son of God.
He fulfills both the Priesthood of
Melchizedek and Aaron. In some respects the Priesthood of Christ resembles that of Melchizedek
and in others that of Aaron or Levi.

1.
He was “made a High Priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek.” Order: taxis, signifies “series, succession.” Christ,
like
Melchizedek, had no priestly descent of pedigree. He never followed nor will have a successor in office.
And because He continues ever, has an unchangeable Priesthood, “which passes not from one to another.”
The Priesthood of Levi to be continuous had many and a succession of priests, “because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death.

2. Being after the order of Melchizedek, He is superior to the sons of Levi; because He blessed and received tithes from them in Abraham.

3. He is King and Priest; a King by birth, being from the tribe of Judah, and a Priest by the oath of His Father.

4. Being Himself perfect, and His priesthood unending, He is able to perfect forever” and “save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever lives to make intercession for them.”

PRIESTS DIE, CHRIST LIVES
And they truly were many priests, because they
were not suffered to continue by reason of death:
But this Man, because He continues ever,
has an unchangeable priesthood.
Hebrews 7:23,24
 DAILY OFFERINGS, ONE OFFERING
Who needs not daily,
as those high priests to offer up sacrifices,
first for His own sins,
and then for the people’s;
for this He did once when He offered up Himself.
Hebrews 7:27

INFIRMITY, PERFECTION
For the law makes men high priests which have infirmity;
but the word of the oath which was since the law,
makes the Son who is consecrated [margin: perfected] for evermore.
Hebrews 7:28
OLD COVENANT, NEW COVENANT
But now has He obtained a more excellent ministry
[than theirs], by how much also He is the mediator
of a better covenant [than theirs].
Hebrews 8:6
BLOOD OF ANIMALS, BLOOD OF CHRIST
Neither by the blood of goats and calves,
but by His own blood, He entered in once into the holy place.
For if the blood of bulls and of goats and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling the unclean sanctifies to the purifying of the flesh;
How much more shall
the blood of Christ, who, through the eternal spirit offered Himself without spot to God purge your conscience.
Hebrews 9:12-14
ROLE OF HIS PRIESTHOOD & being the SACRIFICE:
And from Jesus Christ,
...the first begotten of the dead...
Unto Him that loved us,
and washed us from our sins
in His own blood.
But He was wounded
for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities:
the chastisement of our peace
was upon Him;
and with His stripes we are healed.
For ye are bought with a price:
Revelation 1:5/Isaiah 53:5/1 Corinthians 6:20

Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.
Psalm 110:4

II. The "Chair"
"In the Jewish temple there were no chairs because the priest’s work
was never done.
By contrast, Paul informs us that when Jesus finished His work He
sat down at the right hand of God: But this man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; Hebrews 10:12." Calvin
In other words, by Christ sitting symbolized the work was done in that He now had the blood for the Atonement for use in the Judgment. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.
But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit:
for the Spirit searcheth all things,
yea, the deep things of God.
1 Corinthians 2:10

III. Everlasting (Old & New) Covenant
For if that first covenant had been faultless,
then should no place have been sought for the second.
Hebrews 8:7
The Everlasting Covenant consists the same Covenant (whether "Old" or "New").
1a) The Old Covenant involved
--the blood of animals,
--was written on Tables of Stone
--and carried out in the earthly Sanctuary.
1b) The New Covenant involves
--the blood of the Lamb of God,
--is written on the flesh of your heart,
--and is carried out in the Heavenly Sanctuary.
*He shows you in the Sanctuary - Become Justified (Outer Court), then pass through Sanctification (Inner Court) to be prepared for your Judgment Day (Most Holy Place).

(Justification)
Neither by the blood of goats and calves, (Old)
but by His own blood (New)
He entered in once into the holy place,
having obtained eternal redemption for us.
For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
How much more shall the blood of Christ,
who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself
without spot to God....

(Sanctification)
For this is the covenant that I will make .....
I will put my laws into their mind,
and write them in their hearts:
and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
....written not with ink
(Old)
but by the Spirit of the living God, (New)
not on tablets of stone
but on tablets of flesh,
that is, of the heart.

(Judgment)
Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make
the tabernacle: (Old)
But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come,
by a greater and more perfect tabernacle,
not made with hands.... (New)
Hebrews 8:10 /2 Corinthians 3:3/Hebrews 8:5/9:12-14,11
--The Old was SYMBOLIC--
--The New is REALITY--
--The Precepts are the SAME--
Jesus Christ the same yesterday,
and to day,
and for ever.
Hebrews 13:8

IV. The Scapegoat
"In the first apartment (Inner Court  /Holy Place) the sins of the
penitent were transferred into the sanctuary by the substitute
.

But in the second apartment (Most Holy Place) the blood was sprinkled on the mercy seat, in order to erase or blot out the sin.
This is what took place during the annual Day of Atonement

Turn to Leviticus 16:5. There we will discover what the ancient priest did in the most holy place on this Day of Atonement. And he shall take of the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats for a sin offering.

Now notice, two goats were brought to the priest,
--and lots were cast to see which one would represent the Lord’s goat,
--and which one would represent the scapegoat.
Leviticus 16:8, 9And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the Lord, and the other lot for the scapegoat
And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the Lord’s lot fell, and offer him for a sin offering.

You will notice that the Lord’s goat was killed for a sin offering, and verse 15 tells us what was done with the blood of that offering. It says, Then shall he kill the goat of the sin offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the veil, you will see he is carrying it into the most holy place.
Q: And what is the priest to do with it?
A: And sprinkle it upon the mercy seat, and before the mercy seat.
So, the blood of the Lord’s goat was taken into the sanctuary, into the most holy, and sprinkled upon the mercy seat in the second apartment.

This now provided full and final atonement.
But that’s not all that happened.

Verses 20 and 21, And when he hath made an end of reconciling
the holy place, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar, he shall bring the
live goat
And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel,
and all their transgressions in all their sins,
putting them upon the head of the goat,
and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness.

The scapegoat represents Satan, so, in the final act taking place on the Day of Atonement, the scapegoat, or Satan, is led into the desert–led there to die.
After the 1,000 years, in the fires of the second death, Satan will receive punishment.
He will suffer not only for his own sins, but also for/with all the sins of all the redeemed saints that were placed upon his head in the closing act of the final atonement
At the appearing of Christ, as taught from Revelation 20, Satan is to be bound and cast into the bottomless pit, which act and place are significantly symbolized by the ancient High Priest sending the scapegoat into a separate and uninhabited wilderness."
